WorldatWork, a global human resources association, has announced the launch of a scholarship program for HR professionals around the world. The scholarship aims to help HR practitioners obtain designations as Certified Compensation Professionals, Certified Benefits Professionals, Global Remuneration Professionals or Work-Life Certified Professionals. WorldatWork designations are known throughout the HR and rewards community as marks of expertise and excellence in all areas of rewards. WorldatWork Career Center data show that 83% of employers look for certification when recruiting HR professionals. October 22, 2009 Majority of Organizations Adjusting HR Policies to Deal With Swine Flu
Washington, D.C. – WorldatWork, a global human resources association, just released the results of its Web poll on employers’ preparations for a possible H1N1 pandemic. With 430 participants, the Web poll (results below) shows that a large majority (68 percent) of organizations are being proactive and are treating this as a potential health emergency. Some 19 percent are treating it like any other flu, 10 percent are taking a wait-and-see approach, while three percent are not even discussing it. More>>

Washington, D.C. – Recognizing the importance of employers and employees working together to achieve more balance between work and family, Congress has declared October to be National Work and Family Month. The recognition was made official on October 14, when the U.S. Senate unanimously passed Senate Resolution 296 and the House of Representatives unanimously passed House Resolution 768. Sens. Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) and Michael Crapo (R-ID), co-chairs of the Senate Workplace Flexibility Study Group, were the lead sponsors in the Senate. Reps. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) and Todd Platts (R-PA) were the lead sponsors of the House resolution fo r the second year in a row. McCarthy is Chairwoman and Platts is Ranking Member of the Healthy Families and Communities Subcommittee of the House Education and Labor Committee. More>>

July 23, 2009 Flexible Schedules for Hourly Workers Becoming More Prevalent Washington, D.C. – A new study by WorldatWork and the Work Design Collaborative (WDC) indicates that the number of hourly workers in the U.S. using flexible scheduling benefits such as teleworking is larger than expected. The study, “Flexible Work Arrangements for Nonexempt Employees,” found that a surprisingly high number of companies are allowing nonexempt employees to telework despite traditional limitations such as work hour and safety requirements. An increasing number of organizations are establishing mandatory policies for employees to follow in order to prevent the theft of laptops and valuable organizational data.
