Success Stories
University of California, Davis
In recognition of National Work & Family Month, AWLP encourages all workplaces to communicate and celebrate their progress in creating healthy and flexible work environments that “strike a balance” between work and home. At the University of California Davis, the campus community can find balance through lunch and learns in the WorkLife, Health Awareness and Career Catalyst brown bag series; seek bliss by participating in the campus community book project, The Geography of Bliss: One Grump’s Search for the Happiest Places in the World by Eric Weiner; stroll the arboretum with Aggies on the Move; and shop for fresh produce at the East Quad Farmer’s Market. UC Davis Staff Pin holders can enjoy discounted dining and entertainment at numerous venues.
On Thursday, Oct. 8, children, families and staff at the Hutchison Child Development Center will help Bright Horizons Family Solutions and Jumpstart break the record for the most children and adults reading the same book on the same day around the world — Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Jumpstart’s fourth annual Read for the Record Campaignis based on research findings that reading aloud with preschool children lays the groundwork for strong literacy skills and future success in school and in life.
